Mouse stands for

M – Manually

O – Operated

U – User

S – Selection

E – Equipment

History:

The first computer mouse was invented by Douglas Engelbart in the early 1960. At the same time, he was the director of the Augmentation Research Center at Stanford Research Institute in California. After Engelbart got the idea to build a mouse, he hired Bill English, who had been working in another lab at SRI, to make the hardware design. In 1964, Bill English joined ARC, there he helped Engelbart build the first mouse prototype.

Function of Mouse:

There are various function of the mouse in computer system, which are given below ------------

  1.  Movement Mouse Cursor: This is main function of our mouse. when we roll mouse up or down then mouse cursor move on the computer monitor screen.
  2. Selection: With using mouse users can select any images, text, any files, and folder etc. It can be performed other tasks such as copy, delete and paste.
  3.    Drag and Drop: Mouse allows to users for moving any objects with the help of drag – drop function. In this method, you have to select object then can be move object while pressing the mouse button, and drop object where to place it.
  4.  Hovering: Moving the mouse cursor over objects with additional hover information can help find the function of each object on the screen. For example, hover your mouse over a hover link to view an example. hover your mouse over a hover link to view an example.
  5. Scroll Up & Down: When you working with long documents, or viewing long web pages, you may need to scroll up or down. For scroll, use the mouse wheel, or click and drag the scroll bar.
  6. Program Execution: Using the mouse, users can complete many task such as open file, close folder, maximize-minimize any windows, double clicks for opening object and more.
  7.  Playing Games: Using the mouse, users can play various games such as change game, in that game need mouse for selecting any particular objects.
  8. Perform other functions: Many desktop mouse also have additional buttons that can be performed so many task.

 Parts of Mouse:

There are various parts of a computer mouse. Which are given below ------

  1. Left Button: The left button is located in the upper left area of the mouse. Left button is usually the main button on the mouse to select an object, text, or icon. This mouse is use for pasting, copying, opening or running a program, saving a file, closing a windows, and refreshing a webpage.
  2. Right Button: The right button is located in the upper right area of the mouse. The main use of this button is to open a contextual menu when clicking on a file, selected text or website. It generally contains options related to the item.
  3. Mouse Wheel: The scroll wheel is located between the right and left buttons of the mouse. Main purpose of wheel in computer mouse for scroll your document page up and down direction.
  4. Ball/Laser/Led: In mechanical mouse have rubber ball that roll on the surface things such as table. optical mouse has laser or LED, these parts allow to mouse for movement on x-axis and y-axis directions on computer screen. Its its parallel   move the mouse cursor on the computer screen.
  5. Circuit Board: This board is placed inside of mouse chasses. It has a microprocessor. It carries some electronic components such as capacitor, diode, and register etc. It sends and receives signals from the computer motherboard to enable mouse system communication.
  6. Cable or Wireless Receiver: this is used on the wired mouse to connect to the system unit. If your mouse is wireless then require the USB receiver for getting the broadcasted signals such as (Infrared, Bluetooth, Radio signals), and then give input to computer.
  7.  Battery: This component is used in the wireless mouse for running stages. If battery gets down then it will not working properly.

Types of Mouse:

Mouse is very important part of our computer. Now a days, various different types of computer mouse are available in the market. Lets look various types of mouse in below ---------

There are three types of mouse as technology wise-----

  1.    Mechanical Mouse
  2. Optomechanical Mouse
  3. Optical Mouse

There are 5 types of mouse as Interface wise-----

  1. Serial Mouse (9 pins)
  2. PS/2 Mouse (6 pins)
  3. USB Mouse
  4. Wireless Mouse

5.      A Bus Connection Mouse-x

Technology wise:

·         Mechanical Mouse:

The mechanical mouse is one of the most traditional mice in the history of computer. This is also called ball mouse. This mouse used a rubber ball to track motion. the ball rotates as you turn the mouse and sensors determine the direction in which you turn. It is quite out-dated now and rarely seen being used anymore.

 ·         Optical Mouse:

Optical mouse is the most commonly use computer mice these days. It was invented in 19 April 1999 by Microsoft. This mouse use advance technology such as LED (Light Emitting Diode), optical sensor, and DSP (digital signal processing). The led detects movements through reflected light. Now a days, everywhere use this kind of mouse.

·         Optomechanical Mouse

Optomechanical mouse has a ball that rolls one of two wheels inside the mouse. It allow an LED light to shine through and be detected by a sensor. As the wheel spins these lights represent an X-axis or y-axis for the mouse pointer on your screen.

Interface Wise:

  1.   Serial Mouse : A serial mouse is a computer mouse that connects to the computer through a serial port. Today, this type of mouse has been replaced by the ps/2 and usb mouse.
  1.  Ps/2 Mouse: The PS/2 (Personal System/2) port is a 6-pin mini-DIN connector used for connecting mice. It was developed by IBM. it was introduced in 1987. The PS/2 mouse connector replaced of the older connector DE-9 RS-232 "serial mouse".

  1.  USB Mouse: A USB mouse is one of the most common types of computer mice in our computer peripherals since the USB Standard was set in 1996. Usb mouse are two types wire and wireless. wired mouse plugs into a USB slot on your PC. while a wireless mouse usually has a transmitter that plugs into the USB slot and communicates with the mouse. These are best mouse for all pc activities.

  1.  Wireless Mouse: A Wireless mouse is a computer mouse that connect to a computer without the use of wires. This mouse is uses some wireless technology like Bluetooth, RF, or Infrared radio wave.

    Mouse ports & connector:

To day, most computer mouse are using usb port. Below is a list of ports and wireless connections a mouse is able of using.

  1.  USB
  2.  PS/2 Port
  3. Serial Port
